Interview: Aaron Lauzon

Monday, December 10th, 2007

AaronLauzonLAX1This is our first interview with an Undergraduate Lambda Chi. Aaron Lauzon has been at Whitewater since 2004. In my conversations with him, I can tell you he is a bright young man with a lot of heart. I am truly proud to call him our Brother!

Aaron, you are the first Undergrad I have interviewed for the website…so, tell me, what are you majoring in?
I am majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Coaching.

Are you graduating this spring? What do you hope to do afterwards? Where would you like to work when you do graduate?
I will be graduating in the spring of 2009. Education is now a 5 year program. I would really like to end up somewhere around the Madison area.

We all know that school takes up almost all of the free time in the day…but when you find a few extra minutes, what do you do for fun?
I am a Big Brother for Big Brothers/Big Sisters…other than that I just try to balance my busy school schedule and an even busier social life.

Announcement from Tom Boelk

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

The following is a message from Brother Tom Boelk.

Tom Boelk“After 25 years as serving as “High Pi” for the Lambda Iota chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, I will be stepping down and will move to emeritus status. I will continue to attend Leadership Conferences and will stay active in both chapter and International activities, but it is time for a new person to take on the role of “High Pi” as the chapter recolonizes. I will be around to help the new person transition into the job and will always be available to give advice and to share the knowledge I have picked up over the years. To whoever steps forward to take this on, please know that you will not be alone but will have the support of both me and other brothers. I also hope that whoever becomes the new “High Pi” finds it as rewarding as I have over the years.”

A message from Martin Hoke

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

The following message is from Alumni Association President, Marty Hoke.

“Given that Tom Boelk has indicated that he’d like to step down as High Pi, we’d like to offer the opportunity to any brother who would be willing and able to take on this rewarding challenge. Please think carefully about what this commitment will entail.

While there will be a great deal of support from other brothers and especially from Tom, Jarod Holt, who will be leading our recolonization effort, has made it clear that it will be necessary for the new “High Pi” to spend a significant amount of time helping to establish the colony and making sure that the new officers understand their roles in the beginning months. After the colony is established, it is anticipated that time requirements will be that of an established High Pi, and so will require less time. So, if you live somewhat close to Whitewater and you feel you have the time, energy and enthusiasm to make this commitment, please consider it.

If you have any questions or would like to nominate someone as a prospective candidate, including yourself, please contact Marty Hoke (mhoke@uline.com). Nominations will close at midnight on December 7th.”

(the list below is incomplete, only what we have from research and personal accounts, please let us know of others who deserve recognition)

We would like to recognize:
Lt. Eldon Broman: Chi Delta Rho (1942)

We recognize Brother Broman’s courage and perseverance as a World War II pilot and Prisoner of War.

B-17s Over BerlinI first learned of Brother Broman and his experience while reading the 1944 Whitewater Minneiska Yearbook. Further research yielded a publication titled “B-17s Over Berlin: Personal Stories from the 95th Bomb Group (H) “by Ian Hawkins which includes a full account of Brother Broman’s story, in his own words. (Click here to read a preview from Google Book Search)

The recount tells of Brother Broman piloting a B-17F Bomber over Germany which was shot down, his undercover travels through Holland under an assumed identity, his capture by Nazi SS troops and finally his release as a Prisoner of War. (I will print a better account when my copy arrives).
(*Note: Brother Broman attended the Homecoming Banquet in 1946, as reported by the 1946 Minneiska)

Thank you to all of our Brothers who have given so much without thought of their own sacrifices.

If your deserving name was not listed, we apologize. Please comment on this post, or email Jeff eChopper and it will be added immediately.

Our local history

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Chi Delta Rho 1939 HouseDid you know that Lambda Chi Alpha is the 2nd oldest Fraternal organization in Whitewater? Only surpassed by Phi Chi Epsilon, Lambda Chi Alpha has roots as a Fraternal organization that goes back to 1929!

I have begun to compile our local history of an organization in Whitewater. Currently, I have all entries from Whitewater’s Official Yearbook, The Minneiska, from 1932-1990. This details the history of our organization, begining with a Fraternity known as Beta Kappa Nu, to Chi Delta Rho, to Delta Kappa, back to Chi Delta Rho and finally becoming Lambda Chi Alpha.

As I put together a complete history and map out all of the houses our Fraternity(s) have used throughout the years, I ask all of you to contribute any information you have to this effort. I am specifically looking for documents, photographs and other items that would prove useful in this documentation.

If you have materials or stories you would like to share and add to our local history, email me eChopper…remove the parens from the email address. If you do not have means to scan these documents to email, let me know and I will make arrangements to get the from/to you in an orderly fashion.

Fraternity History in Whitewater

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

I have been doing some research, tapping into the archives department at Anderson Library at the University in Whitewater. I have received scans of Whitewater yearbooks (formerly known as the Minneiska) from years in the early 30’s-60’s. The remaining years from the 70’s-early 90’s (when the publication ceased printing) will be in my possession shortly. I will be putting together a complete history of Lambda Chi Alpha, Chi Delta Rho, Delta Kappa, and Beta Kappa Nu lineage throughout our existance in Whitewater. Check out a sample of the great photos, such as this one of Chi Delta Rho from 1937 (click thumbnail to enlarge).

Chi Delta Rho 1937

Besides all of the great photos, we can trace the movement of the Fraternity houses throughout the city as Chi Delta Rho and Delta Kappa moved several times.

Moeller63Keep your eyes out for the history to be posted soon, as well as photos to be posted for enjoyment of everyone. Speaking of which, here is a photo of a major contributor to the site: Brother Red Moeller from 1963.

These materials are fantastic and I would like to thank the Archive Department at the Anderson Library and their zeal in finding materials related to our Fraternity.
