Lambda Chi Alpha website circa 2007Just a quick posting to let you know that the current LambdaChi.org website is going to be going by the wayside in the coming months. Sources tell me that HQ is currently knee-deep in developing a new website which will focus on easier access to Lambda Chi Alpha info, Cross & Crescent articles and everything Lambda Chi.

I, as a designer, am excited for the new site, as the current one has been in use since I was an undergrad and appears a little dated. Best of luck to the HQ development team with their efforts!

Road Trip: Lambda Chi Alpha Headquarters

Road Trip

Safe travels to a group of our Brothers who are off to visit Lambda Chi Alpha Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.

Aaron Lauzon, Dustin Scholz, Mark Volz, CJ Kactro, Matt Lahl, Peter Reynolds, and Derek Blaszak are driving out today to see where all of the Fraternity business is handled. We are anticipating all of the photos from the HQ tour (and hopefully some *bonus* snaps of items that are locked in the Fraternity vault, which are not always brought out for tours).

Thanks for Brothers Chris Barrick, Tom Smith and John Holloway for accommodating our Lambda-Iota Brothers.

Moving DayI moved 7 times between my graduation in May of 2000 through July 2006.

If you are like me, you know that updating people on your address can be a real chore. But now, updating Lambda Chi Alpha on your current whereabouts has never been easier.

North American Food Drive 2007: We did it!

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Thumbs UpWe surpassed our goal!
Final (Pending) Total: $1160 (11/05/07, 8:00am)
Donor List

North American Food DriveWith all electronic donations in, I can tell you for sure we have $855 in donations via this website, alone! Our Alumni Association President, Martin Hoke, has been accepting cash/check donations for the Food Drive and can add to this to make the grand total final. (Last I was told, he had $290 in cash/check donations which gives us the pending $1145 total). Upon finalizing the amount, a check will be sent to the Whitewater Food Pantry and a check presentation will be made. Follow-up press releases and photos will be sent to the newspaper outlets in the Whitewater and Janesville area. I will have the final conversion of pounds of food raised, once I confirm it with Marilyn Kleinbaum, director of the Whitewater Food Pantry. All totals will be posted here and submitted in the press release.

Again, many thanks to the Brothers who had the means to donate to our Fraternity’s largest philanthropic event, nation-wide! Keep up to date with the website to see final totals for Lambda Chi Alpha nationally for the North American Food Drive!

I bring great news to all of our Alumni! Lambda Iota won the Alumni Association Website Award at the 2007 Lambda Chi Alpha Leadership Seminar for efforts of work on this website!

We would like to thank all of you who have made comments on stories and posts to this site. Also, thank you to all of you who read this site on a regular basis, suggest topics, stories and make donations to the Alumni Association. All of these things give us energy and reason to keep this site going and thus keep Lambda Iota going through this period of re-grouping.

Chalk one up for Lambda Iota and Whitewater, we’re on our way gentlemen!

I will be posting more information on Leadership Seminar, soon. In the mean time, snack on these few select pictures that are posted on the Lambda Chi Alpha Flickr stream.

News

Monday, July 16th, 2007

From Brother Marty Hoke, President of the Alumni Association:

Re: Lambda Chi Alpha Recolonization
Associate Director of Chapter Services Jarod Holt from Lambda Chi Alpha HQ is looking at two possible weekends to come to Wisconsin.  He and Director of Chapter Services John Holloway are in the process of scheduling the trip.  The weekends they are currently look at are: 8/31 - 9/2 or 9/7 - 9/9.  This is just preliminary and we will only get a portion of their visit dedicated to Whitewater (as their trip will be to visit several campuses along the way), but it is a start.  Jarod said they are definitely coming to visit with us in Wisconsin, he is trying to work around the schedules of 10 people and will follow-up as soon as possible.

Re: UW-W expands their Greek Life Office
A staff opening at the University has allowed the office to shift responsibilities around for several staff and dedicate for the next year more staff time to the Greek Community (50% FTE).  During this next year, the Career & Leadership Development office will take the NIC report recommendations into consideration and develop an overall Greek Life plan and staffing model that will best serve the office and Greek Life. They will then have a national search for the person that will be in part Greek Life focused.

For the coming year the C&LD office has hired Stephanie Hewitt to serve as the primary Greek Life contact for the office.  This will mean working directly with the 3 councils, administrative functions and chapter presidents.   Stephanie comes with the experience of being a valuable employee for a major corporation, UW-W student, leader and member of the Greek family.  She will also be working with the Homecoming Steering Committee and Leadership conferences.

Any questions can be asked here and I will forward them to Jan Bilgen, Associate Director of the Career & Leadership Development office, UW-Whitewater.

What we are up to…

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

To get our Alumni site going again, I will let everyone out there know what Fuzz and I are up to in terms of Lambda Chi.

For those that didn’t know, the Cross and Crescent Magazine moved over to an electronic publication in November of 2005. Since the beginning, Fuzz and I have been involved. Cross & Crescent Editor and IT Director at LCA HQ, Jason Pearce, tapped me to help with the design of the C&C website as well as the layout of the .pdf version of the Magazine. I have also helped on and off with image editing, illustration, and layout work. In December of 2005, Fuzz and I had the idea to put the C&C into a Podcast format. Lambda Chi Alpha became the first Fraternity to have their Magazine online as well as in a Podcast format. Fuzz has been the voice of the Cross & Crescent ever since.

I am also involved with Lambda Chi’s Graphics Committee which has been taking on the task of getting LCA’s logos, marks, symbols, and other imagery in a clean vector format. Most recently, I was given the opportunity to create the logo for the 2007 Leadership Seminar.

Fuzz and I both credit Lambda Chi Alpha for giving us opportunities and abilities that we would never have had if not for joining. From all of our Brothers who encouraged us, helped us with our scholastics, provided a sane (?) place to live, and being surrounded by people care about each other, Fuzz and I feel blessed to be where we are today and want to give back as much as possible to each of you and Lambda Chi.

Without further a-do, we give you the new UWWLCA.com
