Check out the official Lambda Chi Alpha Centennial Logo.
A complete description of the logo continues below.
Douglas Robertson (the first President)
Raymond Boyer (the first Vice President)
Jack Frost (the first Secretary)
Weldon Leahy (the first Treasurer)
It is also appears that the first 2 pledges of Chi Delta Rho (February 1931) were considered Charter Members, they are:
There are 2 others yet to discover. Any information on these men is appreciated….my research with UW-Stevens Point continues.
Through the magic of technology (Google Maps Streetview & PhotoShop) I have pieced together this panorama of 22 Joy Street in Boston, MA.
Lambda Chi Alpha was founded on November 2, 1909 when Warren A. Cole, Percival C. Morse, and Clyde K. Nichols met at 22 Joy St., Boston, and swore allegiance to the new fraternity.
Anyone seen the Lambda Chi Alpha headquarters website? It’s faded to black with just a Coat of Arms on the site…what’s up with that?
Keep checking the site what they are up to!
Our Delta Kappa Brothers may be interested in this post. I have recently acquired what I believe to be an original Delta Kappa member badge, from when the fraternity was known as Tri-Kappa, or Kappa Kappa Kappa (Founded in 1920). Remember, Tri-Kappa changed their name to Delta Kappa because of the inaccurate and unwarranted association with the Ku Klux Klan.
As you can see from the image, the triangular badge is surrounded by 9 seed pearls…3 on each side. Each set flanked by a red stone (ruby?) and one red stone in the center (7 total). There are three 5-pointed stars in the form of a delta surrounding the badge.
The badge comes from an original owner in the North-east, where Tri-Kappa was founded and there is still one surviving Chapter at Ithaca.
The Cross & Crescent is released on the 2nd of every month. Here are some of the upcoming features:
July 2008 – A tribute to all of our Brothers who are members of the armed forces. (*note: I have been given the honor of illustrating the cover for this issue, keep an eye out for that!)
Future issues could possibly have features on famous Alumni Members Will Forte and Tito Santana.
Will Forte (UCLA) of Saturday Night Live is slated to be featured in an upcoming issue of the Cross & Crescent. I posted an article back in April about Will upon hearing the news from the C&C Staff. Looks like that feature will be coming soon to the Cross & Crescent. Will is currently filming a movie. Although I am not sure which, as the Internet Movie Database lists both A Good Old Fashioned Orgy and The Slammin’ Salmon as both being filmed, under his bio. This interview will be a can’t miss! Lots of exciting news from Brother Forte!
Also, Tito Santana (West Texas State University), Professional Wrestling Legend is on the short list to be featured in the Cross & Crescent as well. Actually, until yesterday when I found out about the potential interview in the C&C, I was unaware that Tito Santana was a Chopper! What a great addition to our list of Famous Alumni! I will be looking forward to reading this interview, as I grew up on 80’s-90’s wrestling! Tito Santana was always a great sportsman and competitor…he embodied the essence of the purity of the sport!
I have found an image of the Official Badge of Chi Delta Rho. The badge appears to be an inverted fleur de lee which has the letters Chi Delta Rho in the center. The shape is then outlined by 16 pearls and has a different stone at the nadir (opposite of apex). I would assume the stone to be blue sapphire, as Chi Delta Rho’s colors were Blue and White (the 1st Generation of Chi Delta Rho, as described by the materials from The Central State Teachers College newspaper, The Pointer). The badge is topped by a crown of a King.
The image to the left was scanned from the 1935 issuing of the Central State Teachers College yearbook, The Iris.
If anyone has a Chi Delta Rho Badge and is interested in parting with it, please comment here, I would be very interested in it.
Recruitment for the Chapter will start this fall and we are looking for names of men that you, our Alumni, feel would be great additions to our Brotherhood!
Do you have a son, nephew, grandson, or brother that is attending UW-Whitewater? Please email with the names of men we should contact.
Perhaps you have a friend or a neighbor who has a relative who is attending Whitewater and would be interested in joining Lambda Chi Alpha…again, please contact and we will help facilitate a meeting with Lambda Chi Alpha recruiters.
As an Alumni of Lambda Chi Alpha you know that Lambda Chi Alpha outlawed the archaic practice of pledging in the 70’s and has since led the way in Membership Programs and Philanthropic initiatives. When a man joins Lambda Chi Alpha, he joins a Brotherhood that is almost 100 Years old and has over 250,000 members world-wide! Our Brothers have found the advantages of Business and Social Networking through Lambda Chi, as well as a life-long committment to Justice, Patriotism, Education and Charity. Help us bring more good men into our Bond of Lambda Chi Alpha. Email today!

Now, I have an image to share with you, on the potential look & feel of the new site.
This may not be the exact look & feel, but it is the direction that HQ was interested in moving towards. You will notice that important information is a lot easier to access through “tabbed browsing” at the top of the page and in the lower portion of the page. Cross & Crescent articles will be featured on the homepage (the image shown is from the May Issue) and will link to those stories on CrossAndCrescent.com
My sources tell me the goal is to have the new site launched by General Assembly (July 17, 2008).
Also, the staff at HQ is working overtime pumping out newly designed Paedagogus, Officer Manuals, and a Directory. Oh yes, they also produce the Cross & Crescent every month. Big props to Tad, Chris and the rest of the people who make these things appear seamless!
In my quest to assemble an accurate history of our Chapter in Whitewater, I continue to seek the beginnings of Chi Delta Rho Fraternity. It has led me to The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (formerly Central State Teachers’ College). In their archives I found this clipping which details the formation of Chi Delta Rho as a Fraternity, as this is the Alpha Chapter of Chi Delta Rho (UW-Whitewater being the Beta Chapter, Milton College was Gamma, etc).
***Click the newspaper clipping on the left to see a larger version, for easier reading.
Enjoy this clipping (if you have trouble reading it, leave a comment and I will transcribe it onto the site). Many thanks to the UW-Stevens Point Archival Department.
The Breviary of Medieval Knights says:
“The spiritual energy of the Path uses justice and patience to prepare your spirit.
“This is the Path of the Knight: A path that is at once easy and difficult, because it forces one to set aside trivial things and chance friendships. That is why, at first, many hesitate to follow it.
“This is the first teaching of the Knights: You will erase everything you had written in the book of your life up until now: restlessness, uncertainty, lies. And in the place of all this you will write the word courage. By beginning the journey with that word and continuing with faith in God, you will arrive wherever you need to arrive.”

We need: ideas for businesses to approach about corporate sponsorship of our local Food Drive, ideas on how to make Food Drive a bigger success than last year, and ways to involve more Brothers in Food Drive.
We have already secured one corporate sponsor for 2008…now is the time to encourage more to donate to the North American Food Drive.
Will you help our Fraternity continue this great tradition? Email us today to help!
This article was published in this month’s Cross & Crescent (June 2008).
I felt it worth sharing here on our site, as it shows the true depth of self-sacrifice. May Brother Robert Cook (Missouri S&T 2007) be an inspiration to us all.
On July 29, 2006, an Australian woman, Kimberley Dear, was to have made her first skydive in the United States. But when engine failure caused the plane to plummet to the ground minutes after take-off, Robert Cook (Missouri S&T 2007), her instructor, clipped his skydive harness to hers and demanded she use his body as a human shield. He was killed on impact.
Robert Cook (Missouri S&T 2007)The 22-year-old Cook, a skydiving fanatic and civil engineering student at the Missouri University of Science & Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla), had clocked up 1,727 jumps and earned every possible United States Parachute Association certificate.
In the mere seconds it took for the plane to fall, Cook turned to Dear and told her to focus on his instructions. He clipped his harness to hers and told her to brace herself using his body to cushion the fall.
I have been collecting Lambda Chi Alpha items for several years now. Recently, I have seen an increase of what appear to be fake Lambda Chi Alpha relics on various auction websites.
About a year ago, I viewed a listing which had between 25-50 miniature Coat of Arms cast in a variety of metallic colors. These miniature Coat of Arms are the same that you would find on a lapel pin. Since this “grab bag” of miniature Coat of Arms was listed (and sold), a variety of “very old” and “rare” Lambda Chi Alpha artifacts have been springing up. I wouldn’t question the authenticity of such items, except for the fact that the common component in 99% of these rare items is a miniature Coat of Arms. This type of item is easy to spot. (Shown below are examples of my opinion of such items).
