Happy Founders Day (#2) or Lambda Chi Alpha Day

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Founder's Day March 22, 2008I believe a good deal of stress should be put upon Lambda Chi Alpha Day. Morale is greatly stimulated by wholesome sentiment. Such sentiment is stimulated by anniversary speeches. We stand for something. Let us unite and say so.

Lambda Chi Alpha Day is a day upon which articulate expression is to be given as to what the Fraternity stands for, and recognition is to be given to all those who have made it what it is, and any time in its history, before, at, or after that particular anniversary.

Fraternity Archives

If you have items you would like to have archived, be it Yearbooks, Fraternal antiquities, Membership Badges, please use the Contact Us page to send me, Jeff, an email about your item(s) and I will provide you the address to send them to.

Our goal is to keep items for a running history of our organization throughout it’s tenure at UW-Whitewater. From the creation of Beta Kappa Nu in 1929, to Chi Delta Rho, Delta Kappa, back to Chi Delta Rho and finally Lambda Chi Alpha…we feel it is important to preserve our history and share it with all of our Brothers, friends and the University. The men of our organization have contributed so much to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and to one another. We do this to recognize our combined effotrs and contributions.

Many thanks to Delta Kappa Brother Dwane Kamla of Janesville, WI.

Dwane has recently supplied the Fraternity Archive with color copies of the Whitewater Minneiska Yearbooks from 1953-1959, specifically the covers and all pages mentioning Delta Kappa.

High Pi transition: a letter from Tom Boelk

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Tom BoelkA letter from Brother Tom Boelk.

As you all know, I stepped down as High Pi (Fraternity Advisor) after serving for many years.

I found it very rewarding, but thought it was time for new leadership as we make the transition to recolonize Whitewater. So, I am happy to announce that Brother Nick Weisensel will be stepping up to be the next High Pi for the Lambda-Iota Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha. Nick attended the Winter Leadership Conference in January 2008 and has been working hard to learn as much as he can to assist the new colony. This will become official as soon as we recolonize and fill out some paperwork, but please join me in congratulating Nick on taking on this important role. I know he will do a great job and I will continue to help him in whatever way I can and hope all alumni will do the same. It’s a very rewarding role, but one that works best with support from all the alumni.

    UW-Whitewater to launch new website

    Friday, March 14th, 2008

    UW-Whitewater Logo

On Monday, March 17th, 2008, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will re-launch their website with a new look and feel.

I am very excited for this re-design as their current structure is visually cluttered, hard to navigate and hard to find items quickly. The new design only appears to affect the shell of the site, with individual Centers and Departments having their own sites as usual. I anticipate standardizing throughout the University which will keep everyone in the same look and feel.

To preview the new site, click here to visit .

The final photo of Alpha-Beta Zeta at UW-Madison

    Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Here’s a photo I dug up from “The Badger”, the official University of Wisconsin (Madison) yearbook. It’s a 1969 entry for Lambda Chi Alpha’s Alpha-Beta Chapter. The Chapter was removed from campus in 1968…yet they managed to gain entry to the college yearbook the following year.

    Alpha-Beta 1969

Alpha-Beta 1969 legendThe entry that goes with the photo reads:

National expose’s have drive the Mafia underground, only to reemerge by infiltration of such a fine, upstanding, high-principled, God-fearing group as the Lambda Chi Alpha’s. Whether wearing sunglasses or standing symbolocally behind a barred window, these fellows fit right in at the annual Casino party. In order to keep up a good front, they’ve even taken to playing football, basketball, softball, badmitton, and organizing entertainment for inmates of Central Colony in the spring. Still, it does look a little odd when they all stay indoors ever St. Valentine’s Day.

    Business Meeting: April 1

    Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

think.jpgThe Alumni Association will be scheduling a business meeting for:
    Tuesday, April 1, 2008
    7:00 pm
    215 Hyer Hall

Try to make it to this meeting, if you can, since it will be an important strategy planning meeting. Things are beginning to happen pretty quickly as we move closer to colonization and there are a number of important meetings coming up in the next few weeks/months: meeting with university officials, the presentation before the expansion committee, and a visit with the HQ guys. It is an especially important meeting for those who are on the alumni advisory board, so try to make it if you can. Even if you’ve been unable to make meetings recently, we can bring you up to speed in this meeting.

    Website Anniversary

    Monday, March 10th, 2008

The 4th Anniversary of our website came and went as January faded into February…and 1 year (March 7, 2007) since we changed the format of the site to the version you see today.

We look forward to a prosperous year of growth as our Brotherhood returns to the campus of UW-Whitewater, continuing the tradition that has been active since 1929!

A continued thanks to all of our Brothers throughout every incarnation of our Fraternity in Whitewater. Our Brotherhood transcends names and members, and it is our commitment to one another and the Bonds we share that remain true.

Can you name anyone in this photo? If so, comment on this post, leave their name and location in the photo.

    Colony questions

    Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

question.jpgMany of the emails I, Alumni Association and Housing Corporation Members receive are inquiring about the process of the Lambda Chi Alpha Colony at Whitewater…

…where we are in the process, what important dates are coming up, etc.

To address these questions, I am starting a Re-Colonizing FAQ page on the site, starting with this post. If you have a question about the forthcoming Colony you can post it here as a comment or use the email form in the Contact Us page.

From there, the questions will be added to this post and to the Re-Colonizing FAQ page (available in the right-hand navigation) and I will get the best available answer to questions as I am able.

    NCAA Tournament Challenge

    Saturday, March 1st, 2008

    NCAA Basketball

Just as we did with the Superbowl, we are setting up a NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracket Challenge. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers. And everyone along the way can enjoy the rabble-rousing on the league message board!

I will post complete instructions on how to join our “League” of tournament play when Yahoo! opens their NCAA Tournament section. Everyone is encouraged to enter. There is no cost. Because we will be using Yahoo! Sports as the League Home… you need to create a Yahoo account to participate.

Many thanks to Brother Garrett O’Reilly who suggested Yahoo!, as it is the best to “view everyone in our group’s picks and to talk trash on a group-specific message board.”
