ADOPT AN INITIATE

Monday, June 14th, 2010

lamp (2)

Dear Brother,
Remember back to that time when you first associated with Lambda Chi Alpha. Remember that feeling the first time you set foot in the house as an associate member; a feeling of complete and unconditional acceptance.  Some even said they felt as if they were home for the first time.

As you progressed through your associate semester, you were guided by brothers, taught the ways of Lambda Chi Alpha.  Taught what it meant to be a man.  When you finally made it to the end of that semester, the brothers gave you their ritual and you became one of them.  Can you remember how that felt?  I’m sure words can’t begin to fully describe the emotions that overwhelmed you that day. One thing is certain though, your brothers were with you every step of the way.

Brothers were there for you every step of the way, guiding you, educating you and lifting you up, helping you become the man you are today.  There was always someone willing to lend you an ear or a helping hand.  There was always someone willing to go that extra mile to help you when you needed it.  The bond of brotherhood that grew from all of this exists to this day and is the backbone of Lambda Chi Alpha.

Today, the men of Lambda Chi Alpha –UW Whitewater need your helping hand. Lambda Iota Zeta has returned and is in the process of becoming a colony. These new initiates need you, their brother, so they can have the same experiences you and I were lucky to have.  They want to share their experiences with you as they learn from you what it means to be a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha. To that end, the Alumni Association and Housing Corp have created ADOPT AN INITIATE.

ADOPT AN INITIATE was modeled after several other successful programs such as Adopt A Soldier, Sponsor a Child and who could ever forget Adopt a Highway.  For a one time donation of $75 you will receive a picture of your initiate and a personalized letter introducing themselves and sharing with you their passion for Lambda Chi Alpha. Then each month, you will receive a letter updating you on the events of Lambda Chi Alpha as well as that of your initiate.  Your donation, along with the sharing of your memories and experiences in Lambda Chi Alpha, will help guide our new brothers in much the same way as your older brothers guided you when you were an associate member.

We understand that in this time of economic uncertainty, not everyone has the ability to donate $75 to Lambda Chi Alpha-UW Whitewater.  To that end, we would like you to consider donating whatever amount you can reasonably afford.  No one can truly put a price on all that Lambda Chi Alpha has given to its members in the past, but if they could, I’m sure $75 wouldn’t begin to cover it.  There are several options open to you should you care to donate.   You can pay by credit card by using the paypal option at www.uwwlca.com, or you can send a check or money order to:

Chi Delta Rho (2nd Generation) Badge

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Many thanks to Brother Terry Esrael for these two pins.
First, this great Chi Delta Rho Badge.

This is (what I call) a 2nd Generation Chi Delta Rho Badge, from the years of Chi Delta Rho at UW-W between the Delta Kappa generation and the beginning of Lambda Chi Alpha in 1965. It depicts the 2nd Gen. Chi Delta Rho Coat of Arms/Crest, which was very similar to the original Chi Delta Rho Crest, but was adapted to have 2 elements from the Delta Kappa Crest.

Secondly, Brother Esrael sent a Lambda Chi Alpha letters recognition pin.

Also, Terry sent 3 composites which I will be sharing with all of you, shortly! Thanks again to Brother Terry Esrael for these great submissions to the archives. If you have items you would like included in the archives, please comment here or email me at:

Be sure to check out Brother Esrael’s business website: www.visualsports.photoreflect.com

Cross & Crescent: November 2008

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

This month’s Cross & Crescent marks the 3rd year that the official magazine has been published completely online. Features include:
  • An interview with Professional Wrestling legend Tito Santana
  • An article on Neal E. Boyd, winner of NBC’s America’s Got Talent
  • An article about the founder of Veteran’s Day, Max C. Floto
  • An article I wrote about controling your image online
  • Chapter News section which has news about Brother Tommy Kempfer who is (still) stuck in a truck!
  • Homecoming 2008 re-cap

    Thursday, October 30th, 2008

It was a great weekend for football and for seeing friends in Whitewater this past weekend.

The event at the house put on by the Alumni Association and the Housing Corporation were outstanding! Many thanks to Don Reinbold and his wife Deb for the extra efforts they put into Homecoming. It was great to meet up with all of our Brothers, old and new, and look to the future in meeting the men who are now form the Lambda Chi interest group on campus.

Here is a batch of photos that I took, expect more in the coming weeks as they roll in from the guys who were there. Images include: Photos of the House, Alumni, the Football Game (yes, they play football on Homecoming!), the former TKE House and some shots of campus.

Update: Tom Kempfer is ‘Stuck in a Truck’

    Monday, October 20th, 2008

UPDATE: Tommy is still stuck in the truck.
It’s down to 3 contestants, Tommy being one of them! I flipped on the site last night and saw “Mel” get out of the truck around 9:10pm (Oct 23…21 days after entering the truck!)

Tommy won the six hour break this past thursday and wanted to send thanks to any and all of our Brothers who voted for him- it meant a lot to him. He and the other three contestants are now settling in for the long haul and Tommy is determined to win. The organizers told them that these contests typically run as long as 45-75 days and Tommy, since he works on commissions, has arranged so that he can stay as long as he needs to in order to win. He welcomes visitors any time anyone can stop by at the Kayser Ford office on the beltline off the Todd Drive exit in Madison. He’s doing fine and has read more books in the last two weeks than he has read in the past four years. On election day, each of the remaining contestants will get a six hour break to vote and each of them plans to still be there then.
    —-
Brother Tom Kempfer is ‘Stuck in a Truck’. He is participating in a contest with 96.3 Star Country WMAD , where he is trying to outlast other contestants by spending his days and nights inside of a truck! The winner takes home Ford F-150. I believe the contest began on October 5th and will go on as long as it takes. Tommy can be seen on camera (warning: camera contains audio and video, parental discretion is advised).
Thanks to Brother Mark Volz for this story!

    Officer Mentors

    Friday, September 12th, 2008

    Brothers,
It is our intention to establish an Alumni mentor program. This program will not only establish a stronger bond between the undergraduate members but also provide the additional oversight required to keep the chapter growing in the right direction.

As you can see – one spot is open and many are filled by current officers with other responsibilities. It is our desire to eliminate this overlap and have as many brothers as possible to get involved in our recolonization. This approach will not only eliminate burnout but will also provide a greater experience for all. Please contact me directly if you are willing to fill in an open assignment or are willing to assist one of the officer mentors

    Facebook group at 100 members

    Friday, August 29th, 2008

Sources tell me that our Lambda Chi Alpha: University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Facebook group have hit 100 members! That’s pretty awesome, considering we have almost 1,000 Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni…that’s over 10%.

Be sure to keep an eye out for our new UW-Whitewater Lambda Chi Alpha (Delta Kappa, Chi Delta Rho) -only Social Networking Site. Fuzzy and I are working diligently to implement The Lodge.

The Lodge will be a place for our Brothers to share stories/photos and get back in contact with one another. It will be for our Brothers only, much like the way The Basement was on the previous incarnation of this website. Stay tuned!

Lambda Chi Alpha Brother Phil Dalhausser wins Olympic Gold Medal in Beach Volleyball

    Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Congratulations to Brother Phil Dalhausser and his Olympic Beach Volleyball partner Todd Rogers on winning gold medals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Below are some photos of their final match with Brazil (from NBCOlympics.com)

Lambda Chi Alpha Olympian: Phil Dalhausser

    Monday, August 11th, 2008

When you tune into the Olympics this year, be sure to set your DVR for Men’s Beach Volleyball. Brother Phil Danhausser, originally from Switzerland, attended the University of Central Florida where he joined the Beta-Eta Chapter. While in school, Phil played volleyball and earned the “Most Valuable Player” award before graduating with a Business Degree.

The 6′9″ Olympian is partnered with beach volleyball veteran Todd Rogers and has a very good shot at bringing home a Gold Medal for the US Olympic Team.

Keep up to date with U.S.A. Beach Volleyball and Phil Dalhausser by checking this site.

    All-Alumni Meeting

    Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

A letter from Alumni Association Vice-President, Don Reinbold.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone [on Wednesday July 23rd]. Below is a link to where we will be meeting on Wednesday. I did try to accommodate the driving people have to do. We will meet at 6:00PM in Germantown, WI. And please watch your email on Wednesday for last minute changes if necessary. Please shoot me another email to confirm your attendance. [zax560@yahoo.com]

    Points of Discussion:

    1) *Alumni Mentors for Undergraduate Officers* – the Goal is to establish a relationship between the alumni and the undergraduate members, to keep stronger control and oversight, and to spread the responsibility of oversight across several members rather than a single Hi Pi. The assignments may change as we move forward – but we need a starting point and National has asked that this be settled by August so they are in place as we move forward.
If you want to review these positions you can go to www.lambdachi.org http://www.lambdachi.org – then choose the “undergraduate tab” and the “Officer Resources tab.” There you will find a list of officer positions and their individual responsibilities along with support materials.

    2) *Discuss the house and the improvements coming for this fall*. I am pursuing the Home equity line of credit and looking for additional input and to formulate a plan for moving forward.

    3) *Housing Corp Meeting / Alumni Association meeting*. There are a few business type discussions that have to take place as we reorganize for moving forward in regards to officer and operating plans for these two organizations. We have generally pushed thee two together into one pot – but as we move forward these two groups will have distinctly different rolls. I will appreciate your input.

    Don Reinbold
