Update your information
Thursday, July 3rd, 2008
Many of you have already received this postcard which asks you to call a 1-800 number to update your information with Lambda Chi Alpha Headquarters. This is a legitimate request, on behalf of our Fraternity. There will be a Centennial Edition of the Alumni Directory published in 2009. When you call the 800 number, you will be asked to give as much or as little information you would like to have printed. From your name, graduation year, profession, marital status, email, etc. Afterward, the customer service representative will ask you if you want to purchase a Lambda Chi Alpha directory (which will arrive in February of 2009). The cost for a hardcover edition is $90, softcover is $70 and a cd-rom version is $40 (? I think). You are not obligated to purchase any of the items to have your information included.
If you do purchase a bound directory, you will be pleased to find a (40 page?) History of Lambda Chi Alpha included inside the book. Lambda Chi Alpha does receive a portion of the money generated from the sale of the directory.
Please make the quick phone call today and update your information.
New Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity website
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008A big hats off to the Brothers at Lambda Chi Alpha International Headquarters on the new LambdaChi.org website.
The new design is incredibly easy to use! Tabbed browsing makes finding materials on the Lambda Chi site is a snap. Congrats to Brothers Chris Barrick and Tad Lichtenauer on their efforts to complete the site.
Cross & Crescent: July 2008
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008Be sure to check out the Cross & Crescent this month. The entire issue is a tribute to our Brothers who serve & have served in the armed forces.

Also, I had the privilege of illustrating the July 2008 cover, shown above.

Where it all began – 22 Joy Street, Boston, MA
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008
Through the magic of technology (Google Maps Streetview & PhotoShop) I have pieced together this panorama of 22 Joy Street in Boston, MA.
Lambda Chi Alpha was founded on November 2, 1909 when Warren A. Cole, Percival C. Morse, and Clyde K. Nichols met at 22 Joy St., Boston, and swore allegiance to the new fraternity.
Lambda Chi Alpha website crashed?

Anyone seen the Lambda Chi Alpha headquarters website? It’s faded to black with just a Coat of Arms on the site…what’s up with that?
Keep checking the site what they are up to!
Wanted: Great Men to join Lambda Chi Alpha
Friday, June 13th, 2008
Dedicated Alumni,
Recruitment for the Chapter will start this fall and we are looking for names of men that you, our Alumni, feel would be great additions to our Brotherhood!
Do you have a son, nephew, grandson, or brother that is attending UW-Whitewater? Please email
with the names of men we should contact.
Perhaps you have a friend or a neighbor who has a relative who is attending Whitewater and would be interested in joining Lambda Chi Alpha…again, please contact
and we will help facilitate a meeting with Lambda Chi Alpha recruiters.
As an Alumni of Lambda Chi Alpha you know that Lambda Chi Alpha outlawed the archaic practice of pledging in the 70’s and has since led the way in Membership Programs and Philanthropic initiatives. When a man joins Lambda Chi Alpha, he joins a Brotherhood that is almost 100 Years old and has over 250,000 members world-wide! Our Brothers have found the advantages of Business and Social Networking through Lambda Chi, as well as a life-long committment to Justice, Patriotism, Education and Charity. Help us bring more good men into our Bond of Lambda Chi Alpha. Email
today!

Thursday, June 5th, 2008
We are actively seeking individuals to help with the 2008 North American Food Drive.
Please email us if you:
We need: ideas for businesses to approach about corporate sponsorship of our local Food Drive, ideas on how to make Food Drive a bigger success than last year, and ways to involve more Brothers in Food Drive.
We have already secured one corporate sponsor for 2008…now is the time to encourage more to donate to the North American Food Drive.
Will you help our Fraternity continue this great tradition? Email us today to help!
Lambda Chi Alpha Brother dies saving a woman’s life
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008This article was published in this month’s Cross & Crescent (June 2008).
I felt it worth sharing here on our site, as it shows the true depth of self-sacrifice. May Brother Robert Cook (Missouri S&T 2007) be an inspiration to us all.
On July 29, 2006, an Australian woman, Kimberley Dear, was to have made her first skydive in the United States. But when engine failure caused the plane to plummet to the ground minutes after take-off, Robert Cook (Missouri S&T 2007), her instructor, clipped his skydive harness to hers and demanded she use his body as a human shield. He was killed on impact.
Robert Cook (Missouri S&T 2007)The 22-year-old Cook, a skydiving fanatic and civil engineering student at the Missouri University of Science & Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla), had clocked up 1,727 jumps and earned every possible United States Parachute Association certificate.
In the mere seconds it took for the plane to fall, Cook turned to Dear and told her to focus on his instructions. He clipped his harness to hers and told her to brace herself using his body to cushion the fall.
Lambda Chi Alpha pins, badges, relics – buyer beware!
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008I have been collecting Lambda Chi Alpha items for several years now. Recently, I have seen an increase of what appear to be fake Lambda Chi Alpha relics on various auction websites.
About a year ago, I viewed a listing which had between 25-50 miniature Coat of Arms cast in a variety of metallic colors. These miniature Coat of Arms are the same that you would find on a lapel pin. Since this “grab bag” of miniature Coat of Arms was listed (and sold), a variety of “very old” and “rare” Lambda Chi Alpha artifacts have been springing up. I wouldn’t question the authenticity of such items, except for the fact that the common component in 99% of these rare items is a miniature Coat of Arms. This type of item is easy to spot. (Shown below are examples of my opinion of such items).
Celebrating our Founders
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008Today in Lambda Chi Alpha History: A letter signed by Lambda Chi Alpha Charter Brothers Jack Mason, Bert Cross and Ray Ferris.

May 27, 1932
On this day, the twentieth anniversary of the founding of Epsilon Zeta, and of our initiation into Lambda Chi Alpha, we unite in re-affirming our belief in the principles of Lambda Chi Alpha. What is worth while is difficult; this maxim is as true for us as a Fraternity today as it was two decades ago. Faith in one another, and the determination to meet and cope with any obstacle in the way, will help our successors in the active unity of the Order to surmount the difficulties of the coming academic year. We believe, as we believed twenty years ago, in the vital significance of the open and secret mottoes of Lambda Chi Alpha, in their ritualistic embodiment, and in their practical application.

In Memory of our Brothers
Monday, May 26th, 2008Magic Carpet Ride Myth
Friday, May 23rd, 2008A great article from Elon Brother Jason Pearce.
I was 19 years old when I joined Lambda Chi Alpha. Everything I learned about the fraternity I learned from my big brother Lee Thomas, the High Kappa (new member educator), or other senior members in our chapter.
When they told me the fraternity was founded in 1909, I believed them. Likewise, when they played Steppenwolf’s song “Magic Carpet Ride” at every party and told me lead singer John Kay was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha, I had little reason to doubt them.
But they were wrong.
