Chi Delta Rho pheasant hunt 1963

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Participants left to right: Rob Pfisterer (Bill’s brother), Brother Joe Palmer, Brother Martin Dunbar, Brother Ken Laun, Brother Bill Pfisterer, Dave Morgan (owner of the hunting preserve).

This picture is from Brother Bill Pfisterer. He organized the hunt.

The pheasants were so fat, farm raised, that they could hardly fly. We could have probably caught them by hand. We were much slimmer and faster in those days, but much more hung over!

A big black Pheasant flew over Joe Palmer’s head, he shot at it, and put a hole right through the bird. The hole was the size of a fist, and you could see right through the hole.

(Click the image to see a larger version. Many thanks to Brother Martin Dunbar who sent in this photo & the above comments.)

Chi Delta Rho (2nd Generation) Badge

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Many thanks to Brother Terry Esrael for these two pins.
First, this great Chi Delta Rho Badge.

This is (what I call) a 2nd Generation Chi Delta Rho Badge, from the years of Chi Delta Rho at UW-W between the Delta Kappa generation and the beginning of Lambda Chi Alpha in 1965. It depicts the 2nd Gen. Chi Delta Rho Coat of Arms/Crest, which was very similar to the original Chi Delta Rho Crest, but was adapted to have 2 elements from the Delta Kappa Crest.

Secondly, Brother Esrael sent a Lambda Chi Alpha letters recognition pin.

Also, Terry sent 3 composites which I will be sharing with all of you, shortly! Thanks again to Brother Terry Esrael for these great submissions to the archives. If you have items you would like included in the archives, please comment here or email me at:

Be sure to check out Brother Esrael’s business website:

Chi Delta Rho badge

Friday, September 19th, 2008

What a great day! I have acquired a Chi Delta Rho badge from a private collector in Florida (many thanks to Mr. Banter for his generous trade! and to Brother Jono Hren for finding the collector & facilitating the trade).

This badge is an un-jeweled Chi Delta Rho badge from the Gamma Chapter at Milton College.

It’s shaping up to be a great weekend!

Chi Delta Rho cartoon

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Here’s a great historical fraternity cartoon of a Chi Delta Rho Pledge from “yester-year”. Taken from the 1949 UW-Stevens Point (Central State Teacher’s College) Yearbook-The Iris.

In the cartoon, you can see a couple staples of Chi Delta Rho pledges (from UW-SP, at least):
-A (red) lantern
-A Chi Delta Rho Pledge paddle painted blue & white (CDR colors)
-Pledge book (back pocket)
-The standard freshman “beanie”
…and I believe the mis-matched socks were also a required part of the ensemble.

Lambda Chi Alpha (Lambda Iota) Founder’s Badge

Monday, August 18th, 2008

I am very pleased to say that I have rescued a Founder’s Badge from an online auction site. This Lambda Chi Alpha Badge originally belonged to Martin Krygiel, Lambda-Iota 46.

Brother Krygiel was a member of Chi Delta Rho when they transitioned to Lambda Chi Alpha in 1965. Martin was Lambda-Iota’s first Social Chairman (High Epsilon) and that is denoted by the winged torch hanging between the badge and the badge guard.

Chi Delta Rho Founders – 1930

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho BadgeAfter much extension research, I have found the names of the 9 Founders of the Chi Delta Rho Fraternity.

These men were students at Central State Teacher’s College, which is now known as the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. In 1930 they founded the original Chi Delta Rho Fraternity, which became the Alpha Chapter after they installed the Beta Chapter at UW-Whitewater. Chi Delta Rho went on to install Chapters at Milton College, the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and UW-Eau Claire.

Chi Delta Rho’s Founders are:
Raymond Boyer (First Vice President & Wrote the Chi Delta Rho Song)
C. Brooks
Fred Cochrane
Wendel Crosby
Jack Frost (First Secretary)
Elmer Larsen
Weldon Leahy (First Treasurer)
Douglas Robertson (First President)
James Turrish

Hundreds, if not thousands of men throughout Wisconsin owe their Fraternal experiences to these 9 men.

All-Fraternity Reunion Photos

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

A great time was had by everyone in attendance at the 2008 Fraternity Reunion at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells on July 16, 2008.

From my count there were nearly 30 Chi Delta Rho, Delta Kappa and Lambda Chi Alpha Brothers from pre-1970 who attended the luncheon. The guys are looking forward to next year’s reunion and hope for an even bigger crowd and newer members to attend, as well!

Thanks to Brother Mike Skogstad who sent us these photos to share with everyone.

Chi Delta Rho Spring Break – 1963

Monday, August 4th, 2008

[flashvideo filename= /]

Thanks to Brother Ron Franzen for this great video! Shown are some of our Chi Delta Rho Brothers on Spring Break in Ft. Lauderdale in 1963.

Here is a portion of Ron’s email in which he mentions who is in the movie

Because I’m working with a 66 year old brain, I don’t remember everybody in the movie. However the following brothers make at least brief appearance: Wes Anson, Mitch Covic, Ron Franzen, Terry Harris, Paul Korth, Pat McKeever, Red Moeller, Bill Pfisterer, Ken Westphal and Don Zielke.

We will be posting some higher-resolution screen captures to view, soon! (Brother Bill Hamilton mentioned that he saw Tom Hinz in the movie).

Chi Delta Rho Founders

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho Fraternity was organized and founded at Central State College (now UW-Stevens Point). Here are the names of 5 of the 9 Founders of Chi Delta Rho Fraternity (Alpha Chapter):

Douglas Robertson (the first President)
Raymond Boyer (the first Vice President)
Jack Frost (the first Secretary)
Weldon Leahy (the first Treasurer)
Elmer Larson

It is also appears that the first 2 pledges of Chi Delta Rho (February 1931) were considered Charter Members, they are:

Edward Luethold
John Murat

There are 2 others yet to discover. Any information on these men is appreciated….my research with UW-Stevens Point continues.

Chi Delta Rho Official Badge

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho BadgeI have found an image of the Official Badge of Chi Delta Rho. The badge appears to be an inverted fleur de lee which has the letters Chi Delta Rho in the center. The shape is then outlined by 16 pearls and has a different stone at the nadir (opposite of apex). I would assume the stone to be blue sapphire, as Chi Delta Rho’s colors were Blue and White (the 1st Generation of Chi Delta Rho, as described by the materials from The Central State Teachers College newspaper, The Pointer). The badge is topped by a crown of a King.

The image to the left was scanned from the 1935 issuing of the Central State Teachers College yearbook, The Iris.

If anyone has a Chi Delta Rho Badge and is interested in parting with it, please comment here, I would be very interested in it.

Chi Delta Rho – Alpha Chapter History

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho - Alpha Chapter HistoryIn my quest to assemble an accurate history of our Chapter in Whitewater, I continue to seek the beginnings of Chi Delta Rho Fraternity. It has led me to The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (formerly Central State Teachers’ College). In their archives I found this clipping which details the formation of Chi Delta Rho as a Fraternity, as this is the Alpha Chapter of Chi Delta Rho (UW-Whitewater being the Beta Chapter, Milton College was Gamma, etc).

***Click the newspaper clipping on the left to see a larger version, for easier reading.

Enjoy this clipping (if you have trouble reading it, leave a comment and I will transcribe it onto the site). Many thanks to the UW-Stevens Point Archival Department.

In Memory of our Brothers

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Unknown SoldiersOn this Memorial Day, we would like to remember all of our Brothers who have served our Country with Honor, Pride and Bravery.

This year, we would like to honor all of our Brothers, names unknown, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the United States.
