A letter from our Alumni Association President

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

What follows is a letter from our new Alumni Association President, Michael Easton. Mike attended the University of Wisconsin Whitewater from 1994-1998, rushing Lambda Chi Alpha in the fall of 1994. As an undergraduate, he served as the Fraternity Secretary and Vice President, along with participating in the diving team and stunt squad. Many of you may remember Mike being the school mascot, Willy the Warhawk, during his time at Whitewater. After graduation, Mike attended the University of Miami (FL) Law School, where he graduated from in 2001, his focus on elder law and estate planning. He has served as a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni Association and now has been elected as our new Alumni Association President.

I would have preferred to introduce myself earlier, but these first 2 weeks of my term as President have seen significant developments that the Alumni Association is now proud to share with you. Due to the tremendous efforts put forth by the Alumni Association and Housing Corporation over the past three years, the International Fraternity sent representatives to campus recently to begin the recruitment process. Although recruitment hasn’t resulted in tremendous numbers, Internationals has preached and successfully implemented a quality over quantity approach to recruitment. Currently an ‘interest group’ made up of a small core group of motivated student leaders is being formed. This interest group will function somewhat like a typical chapter until its members have identified and recruited enough similarly motivated and quality men to properly function as a small chapter. At that time, we will petition the International Fraternity to return to campus and initiate the members of our revitalized chapter.

Our return to campus would not have been possible without the hard work of many people, too numerous to point out. However, I do wish to recognize our leaders over the past 3 years, without whom, we would not be reopening our chapter. First, I would like to recognize my predecessor as President of the Alumni Association, Marty Hoke. Marty held us together through some very tough times and deserves the gratitude of all our alumni for his efforts.

I also hope the alumni will recognize all members of the Housing Corporation, as it is largely made up of the same members today as it was fifteen years ago. In particular, I would like to identify the new President of the Housing Corporation, Don Reinbold. He served as Vice President of the Alumni Association for the past three years and we look forward to working with him as the new President of the Housing Corporation in the future.

Finally and most importantly, we must all recognize the efforts of Tom Boelk, who recently announced that he would be stepping down as High Pi of our chapter. Tom has seen us through good times and bad, and never once wavered in his devotion to the survival of this chapter. Without Tom, most of us would never have had the opportunity to join this fraternity. Now that he has seen us through one final period of adversity, he has stepped down and deserves our gratitude.

The Alumni Association is looking forward to a successful expansion of our chapter. Please try to get involved. We have a very bright future and I can assure you all that the more involved you become the more pride you will take in our success.

Colonization Dates & Updates

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

What follows is an Email from Aiden Mette, Lambda Chi Alpha-Educational Learning Consultant…
I know this is late notice but it looks like the Associate Member ceremony on Sunday and the tentative Brotherhood event on Friday are going to have to be postponed.
Due to a lot of different factors we just dont have the numbers to make this work so early on. Also I know we have received several names from the alumni base and I encourage anyone that has names to get them to us immediately. Thanks again for all the work you’ve done and if you have any questions please contact me.

Aiden Mette, ELC

This information just came to us from the Lambda Chi Alpha recruiters in Whitewater. What follows is an email from the recruiters on campus.
Tonight (Sunday9/21) we gave out our first bid to Corey Hart, a 21 year old freshman who is a US Marine. Very excited to have him on board as he is a very mature and stable student. [We] have several other prospects on the list that we hope to lock in within the first two days.

Tomorrow (Monday 9/22) we have an activities fair from 4:30 to 6:15 on campus. If anyone is in the area (again, sorry for the extremely late notice), we would more than love to have them, otherwise Matt [Roy] and I can handle it. But we’ll have a table and be distributing information.

Friday (9/26) I hope to have a good group of guys and do a quick Brotherhood event for them. I was thinking early evening so they can get on and do what they want during the night. I would love to have alumni at this because I want to get them introduced right away. It would be a sort of welcome activity, go over the Coat of Arms and Creed, a little Ritualistic. But I was thinking we could do this out the house, so they also get an introduction to where they could live!

Sunday (9/28), I just put in the room request, we plan on hosting our first Associate Member Ceremony. And Alumni support would be more than appreciated. We are hoping to have our recent colony at Lake Forest perform it for them to create some great interaction. But that would be 12 pm [noon] hopefully in the Old Main Ballroom of the University Center.

Those are the primary dates so far, with more to come. Something else on the radar is October 11th we are hosting a True Leader Summit at Elmhurst College during the day. Free leadership training will be available to the undergrads and we plan on inviting Whitewater and Lake Forest, and if Alumni would be willing to go in support we would love to have you.

Alumni Association Meeting: Tuesday Sept. 16

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Brother Martin HokeGood Afternoon!

The meeting is definitely on for Tuesday, 9/16 at 7:00 PM. I have had several requests to have the meeting in Whitewater, so that is where we will meet. We will meet at the old Huddle (the place a couple doors west of the Brass Rail). I know they have tables in the back that we could sit around.

As a reminder, we will be discussing the following topics:

* Need to have elections for Alumni Association – The election will be for all positions – President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
* Need to discuss Internationals coming to Whitewater to recruit. They are arriving on 9/21 and plan to have the Associate Member Ceremony on 9/30. They also plan to stay in the house.
* Need to discuss ideas for Homecoming. Homecoming is October 25th.
* Need to discuss a fund-raising event or at least an organized effort to solicit donations.
* Need to make sure everyone understands the need for mentors and the fact that we need to share the responsibility of helping the colony in it’s early stages and beyond. It looks like Don has done a good job in filling some mentor spots, but we still need a few more.

We need as many people to attend this meeting as possible. This will be one of the most important meetings we have had to date as we prepare for Lambda Chi’s return to Whitewater, so please make every effort to be at the meeting.

See you on Tuesday,

Marty Hoke
Alumni Association President

Officer Mentors

Friday, September 12th, 2008

It is our intention to establish an Alumni mentor program. This program will not only establish a stronger bond between the undergraduate members but also provide the additional oversight required to keep the chapter growing in the right direction.

As you can see – one spot is open and many are filled by current officers with other responsibilities. It is our desire to eliminate this overlap and have as many brothers as possible to get involved in our recolonization. This approach will not only eliminate burnout but will also provide a greater experience for all. Please contact me directly if you are willing to fill in an open assignment or are willing to assist one of the officer mentors

Wanted: Great Men to join Lambda Chi Alpha

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Lambda Chi Alpha: Lambda-Iota Zeta

Dedicated Alumni,
Recruitment for the Chapter will start this fall and we are looking for names of men that you, our Alumni, feel would be great additions to our Brotherhood!

Do you have a son, nephew, grandson, or brother that is attending UW-Whitewater? Please email with the names of men we should contact.

Perhaps you have a friend or a neighbor who has a relative who is attending Whitewater and would be interested in joining Lambda Chi Alpha…again, please contact and we will help facilitate a meeting with Lambda Chi Alpha recruiters.

As an Alumni of Lambda Chi Alpha you know that Lambda Chi Alpha outlawed the archaic practice of pledging in the 70’s and has since led the way in Membership Programs and Philanthropic initiatives. When a man joins Lambda Chi Alpha, he joins a Brotherhood that is almost 100 Years old and has over 250,000 members world-wide! Our Brothers have found the advantages of Business and Social Networking through Lambda Chi, as well as a life-long committment to Justice, Patriotism, Education and Charity. Help us bring more good men into our Bond of Lambda Chi Alpha. Email today!

Return to Whitewater

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

So, what happens next?

First the Dean of Students needs to approve our return.

Pending that approval, a visit from our International Headquarters Recruiting Team to put together an interest group on campus. The goal is to get a group of 20 men who would be the new base of Lambda Chi Alpha in Whitewater. From there, the Colony Process begins.

When can all of this start?

The Recruitment Team will be on campus starting Sept. 20th, 2008. There are more specific details about the timeline, which will be presented in a future post.

Lambda Chi Alpha back at UW-W

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

In a quick phonecall from Brother Mike Easton, it was reported that the presentation before the UW-W Expansion Committee went very well. We are now waiting for final approval, from the Dean of Students, Dr. Tisa Mason.

Many thanks to our Alumni Association President, Martin Hoke for doing such a wonderful job with the presentation.

The presentation to the committee was videotaped and should be available on this website for viewing, very soon.

More details to follow tomorrow…in the meantime, we should all take a moment to think about what each of us can contribute to make the new Colony a success.

Pride, Replacement, Money and Time.

Colony questions

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

question.jpgMany of the emails I, Alumni Association and Housing Corporation Members receive are inquiring about the process of the Lambda Chi Alpha Colony at Whitewater…

…where we are in the process, what important dates are coming up, etc.

To address these questions, I am starting a Re-Colonizing FAQ page on the site, starting with this post. If you have a question about the forthcoming Colony you can post it here as a comment or use the email form in the Contact Us page.

From there, the questions will be added to this post and to the Re-Colonizing FAQ page (available in the right-hand navigation) and I will get the best available answer to questions as I am able.
