The 932 brothers before you are impressed by your hard work and dedication. Keep up the good work men. You make us proud. A special thanks goes out also to Nick “Pokes” Weisensel on his dedication and hard work with these men. Ever since their return, Nick has driven home the importance of grades and education. Nick deserves just as much recognition as the undergrads. Way to go guys.

UPDATE: AM Ceremony will take place this Sunday 10/10/10 at 2pm in Whitewater. The event will be held in the University Center Rooms UC 68A&B. We will be meeting at the House around 1pm and heading over for those of you who don’t know where these rooms are located. This is it Gentlemen, all the hard work is about to pay off.
Remember back to that time when you first associated with Lambda Chi Alpha. Remember that feeling the first time you set foot in the house as an associate member; a feeling of complete and unconditional acceptance. Some even said they felt as if they were home for the first time.
As you progressed through your associate semester, you were guided by brothers, taught the ways of Lambda Chi Alpha. Taught what it meant to be a man. When you finally made it to the end of that semester, the brothers gave you their ritual and you became one of them. Can you remember how that felt? I’m sure words can’t begin to fully describe the emotions that overwhelmed you that day. One thing is certain though, your brothers were with you every step of the way.
Brothers were there for you every step of the way, guiding you, educating you and lifting you up, helping you become the man you are today. There was always someone willing to lend you an ear or a helping hand. There was always someone willing to go that extra mile to help you when you needed it. The bond of brotherhood that grew from all of this exists to this day and is the backbone of Lambda Chi Alpha.
Today, the men of Lambda Chi Alpha –UW Whitewater need your helping hand. Lambda Iota Zeta has returned and is in the process of becoming a colony. These new initiates need you, their brother, so they can have the same experiences you and I were lucky to have. They want to share their experiences with you as they learn from you what it means to be a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha. To that end, the Alumni Association and Housing Corp have created ADOPT AN INITIATE.
ADOPT AN INITIATE was modeled after several other successful programs such as Adopt A Soldier, Sponsor a Child and who could ever forget Adopt a Highway. For a one time donation of $75 you will receive a picture of your initiate and a personalized letter introducing themselves and sharing with you their passion for Lambda Chi Alpha. Then each month, you will receive a letter updating you on the events of Lambda Chi Alpha as well as that of your initiate. Your donation, along with the sharing of your memories and experiences in Lambda Chi Alpha, will help guide our new brothers in much the same way as your older brothers guided you when you were an associate member.
We understand that in this time of economic uncertainty, not everyone has the ability to donate $75 to Lambda Chi Alpha-UW Whitewater. To that end, we would like you to consider donating whatever amount you can reasonably afford. No one can truly put a price on all that Lambda Chi Alpha has given to its members in the past, but if they could, I’m sure $75 wouldn’t begin to cover it. There are several options open to you should you care to donate. You can pay by credit card by using the paypal option at www.uwwlca.com, or you can send a check or money order to:

Many thanks to Delta Kappa Brother Charles Wilde for sending us this great photo of the Delta Kappa House at 219 Whiton Street.
Here’s a note from Brother Charles Wilde:
“The photos is of [our] Homecoming house display at our Whiton Street home. It was taken in the late 50s in a year that we played the Eau Claire State College Blue Devils. It was probably 1957 or 1958. I’m not sure if the display was a winner!”

Here are the first 2 issues of The Deltan, the official Delta Kappa National Newsletter.
Issue 1 has an explanation of the origins of Delta Kappa Fraternity (at Buffalo Normal School in NY). The Fraternity Motto listed: “True leadership is only possible through honorable and upright living.”
Issue 2 includes a recap of the Milton College Convention and expansion ideas. Chapter news for Chi Delta (Whitewater) mentions President Curt Klade’s efforts which led to Chi Delta’s First Place in Homecoming House Decoration & Tom Hamilton’s election as Homecoming Chair. The Chapter won the IFC scholarship placque for the 2nd year in a row and DK’s were the Presidents of the Senior, Junior and Sophomore classes! The Chapter was at a membership of 52!
Many thanks to Brother Don Vande Sand and his family for sharing these with us.
The files are saved in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
Here is a great selection from the 1958 Delta Kappa Pledge Manual on proper dress attire. It includes color combinations of garments as well as the proper attire for specific events and times of day.
Many thanks to the family of Brother Doug Marquardt for this donation to our Archives! I will be adding more selections for the Delta Kappa Pledge Manual, keep an eye out.
What a great day! I have acquired a Chi Delta Rho badge from a private collector in Florida (many thanks to Mr. Banter for his generous trade! and to Brother Jono Hren for finding the collector & facilitating the trade).
This badge is an un-jeweled Chi Delta Rho badge from the Gamma Chapter at Milton College.
It’s shaping up to be a great weekend!
A great time was had by everyone in attendance at the 2008 Fraternity Reunion at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells on July 16, 2008.
From my count there were nearly 30 Chi Delta Rho, Delta Kappa and Lambda Chi Alpha Brothers from pre-1970 who attended the luncheon. The guys are looking forward to next year’s reunion and hope for an even bigger crowd and newer members to attend, as well!
The Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa was installed at Buffalo State Teachers College, NY in 1920. The Initials inscribed upon the back are B.S.
This pin is exactly like the UW-Whitewater Delta Kappa Badges, except for the UW-W Badges had Chi Delta Chapter designation badge guards.
Secondly, I have found not one, but two Delta Kappa recognition pins. Both are identical, but purchased from two different vendors. The pin is a miniature replica of the Delta Kappa Coat of Arms. Great finds, for sure!
Our Delta Kappa Brothers may be interested in this post. I have recently acquired what I believe to be an original Delta Kappa member badge, from when the fraternity was known as Tri-Kappa, or Kappa Kappa Kappa (Founded in 1920). Remember, Tri-Kappa changed their name to Delta Kappa because of the inaccurate and unwarranted association with the Ku Klux Klan.
As you can see from the image, the triangular badge is surrounded by 9 seed pearls…3 on each side. Each set flanked by a red stone (ruby?) and one red stone in the center (7 total). There are three 5-pointed stars in the form of a delta surrounding the badge.
The badge comes from an original owner in the North-east, where Tri-Kappa was founded and there is still one surviving Chapter at Ithaca.
If you would like to leave a memorial or comment about Doug, please do so by clicking the COMMENTS link below this posting.
**An added note : All UW-Whitewater Delta Kappa Btothers were noted as Honorary Pall Bearers at Doug’s funeral.
I have begun the process of adding Chi Delta Rho as an official entry in Wikipedia.
If anyone can offer any important information about Chi Delta Rho, please comment here or use the Contact Us page to send me a message with the relevant information.
Things I am looking for:
– A list of all Chapters (schools)
– Official Colors, Mottos, Slogans, Values, etc
– Was there a headquarters?
…I am planning to add a Delta Kappa entry to Wikipedia as well, once the Chi Delta Rho page is underway and has some “guts” to it.
Here is a copy of the 1957 Constitution and Statutory Code (14th Ed.) that I recently purchased on eBay. It is saved as a .pdf for your viewing pleasure. Click the thumbnail to see the cover. Click here to view the .pdf of the 1957 Lambda Chi Alpha Constitution and Statutory Code.
Remember, this was when new members were called Pledges, et al.
Did you know that throughout the history of our organization, Chi Delta Rho, Delta Kappa and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternities have lived in 9 houses in Whitewater?
We are in the process of documenting all of the houses with “Then & Now” pictures.
Here are the first two we have for you, click on the image to see larger, more detailed pictures.
Delta Kappa-1954 (219 South Whiton Street)
Chi Delta Rho-1962 (181 Fraternity Lane)
Many thanks to Brother Domingo Nicks for taking the time to shoot these photos.
I have been doing some research, tapping into the archives department at Anderson Library at the University in Whitewater. I have received scans of Whitewater yearbooks (formerly known as the Minneiska) from years in the early 30’s-60’s. The remaining years from the 70’s-early 90’s (when the publication ceased printing) will be in my possession shortly. I will be putting together a complete history of Lambda Chi Alpha, Chi Delta Rho, Delta Kappa, and Beta Kappa Nu lineage throughout our existance in Whitewater. Check out a sample of the great photos, such as this one of Chi Delta Rho from 1937 (click thumbnail to enlarge).
Besides all of the great photos, we can trace the movement of the Fraternity houses throughout the city as Chi Delta Rho and Delta Kappa moved several times.
Keep your eyes out for the history to be posted soon, as well as photos to be posted for enjoyment of everyone. Speaking of which, here is a photo of a major contributor to the site: Brother Red Moeller from 1963.
These materials are fantastic and I would like to thank the Archive Department at the Anderson Library and their zeal in finding materials related to our Fraternity.
Here are a few pictures from the Delta Kappa/Chi Delta Rho summer Luncheon which took place on July 18th in the Wisconsin Dells.
More photos and info about the event are forthcoming.
If you have photos from the luncheon you would like to share, please email them to me
