Doug sent me emails me regularly over the past two years with encouraging messages about bringing the chapter back after suspension. He did this despite the fact that he was pretty ill and suffering from the side effects of the chemotherapy he was receiving.

My favorite message was the one where he told me that nothing had changed, that when he was an undergrad at UWW, that his fraternity had constantly been in trouble with the administration, but could not be suspended because they had the highest GPA of any group on campus. And now, they had all gone on to be successful and high-achieving in the career fields they chose, despite their early hell-raising. (When I attended the DK/Chi Delta Rho picnic at the dells in July 2007, I still saw lots of evidence of the 'hell-raising' natures of the guys, and also, the closeness and brotherhood that had lasted between them all over the decades).

Doug's thoughtfulness and humor were deeply appreciated and will not be forgotten by me.
